Tumors of the Eye

May be encountered in young children at birth where it is known as retinoblastoma. These tumors are common amongst consanguineous marriages and genetic counselling with examination of the genotypic configuration may help in preventing this disease in the children. Eye can be invaded secondarily by skin tumors affecting the orbita and periorbital facial region . These tumors are essentially skin tumors and are largely associated with actinic damage in people who are exposed to sunlight with high content of ultraviolet rays . Fortunately most of these tumors are low grade and indolent in nature and therefore may present in advanced stages with minimal symptomatology . Removal of these tumors needs intra operative control of the margins with frozen section pathologic examination. Reconstruction is often required to resurface surgical defects
